Films: Dawn of the Dead (1978)
Alias: Various
Type: Unknown
Location: Civilized area
Height/Weight: That of average humans.
Affiliation: Neutral
Summary: Remember when George Romero unleashed a zombie horde unto a small house? Now, that plague has burgeoned into a full-scale invasion of the undead across the country. Man's cruelty to man is about to be further realized.
History: Across the U.S., the undead have begun to rise, and there's nothing that can seem to be done to stop it. The zombie army has increased by the hundreds in just a few short weeks, and there are very few places to hide. Even a shopping mall is preciously temporary sanctuary. And worse, there are those who would exploit it for their own gain, zombies or not.
Notable Kills: We get one of the most infamous evisceration scenes ever from these things.
Final Fate: The zombies eventually overrun the mall, but the surviving humans manage to get to the chopper in time. As for the rest of the world, none can say.
Powers/Abilities: Anyone who is killed by them becomes one of their ranks after a bite.
Weakness: A shot to the head permanently immobilizes them.
Scariness Factor: 4-Through sheer numbers alone, the dead managed to all but take over the entire country. They're a bit slow sometimes, but if they get to you, prepare for a grizzly, bloody death.
Trivia: -According to Romero, this film was made to lampoon the mindless consumerism of mall-goers, seeing how malls were fairly new at the time.
-At lot of the effects work was actually improvised significantly. And yet it still looks good.
